Spring Time in Florida Part II

Well yes we did it again!!!! With so many springs in the area we returned for a second trip, this time to Rainbow Springs KP Hole. This time we went all out and spent the entire day floating a few miles down spring. The water and the day were just perfect.

There is a place to rent either kayaks or floats a few miles from the entrance to the park. We decided on kayaks and they transported us and the kayaks via mini bus to a kayak/float entrance. The park security checked us in (making sure we didn't have any contraband items like plastic water bottles or disposable plastic bags - note you can bring reusable items) and to take the park entrance fee (cash only).

The friendly bus driver unloaded the kayaks and floats onto the dock and then we were off! The water was so clear, cool, and refreshing. Fish and plants can clearly be seen through the water and the unique birds and turtles were also amazing to look at throughout the journey. It is great for snorkeling, swimming, and relaxing as the gentle current slowly moves you down the river. There are a couple of spots along the way where the truly adventurous can climb trees and jump into the river.

When you get close to the exit point, you can hear the live music from the restaurant/bar at the finish line. It seems to be a great place to get a snack and drink and watch the tubers and kayakers go by on the river.

There are a few things to keep in mind when going to KP Hole Park. Wear water shoes as flip flops can easily be lost and swept down river. Also wear and bring sunscreen. While many parts of the river are shaded by trees, there are some parts that are not. Bring cash for the park entrance fee (when we went it was $5 per person). Coolers are allowed, but only with non-disposable items inside such as reusable water bottles and reusable plastic containers for snacks and no alcohol is allowed.

This was a truly unforgettable experience for the whole family. The beauty of nature combined with the old Florida charm of the lazy river and huge trees transport you into another time. It is a fun, relaxing, and memorable activity that everyone can thoroughly enjoy.

Don't be surprised if we add a part III to this story as there is still a lot more to discover at the FL springs. Until our next blog, Happy camping.
